So, i’ll try and be brief about this, as you might have already be bored of this shit.
GTA 6 just had its release date (the actual one, at this point) confirmed, its preorders opening tomorrow… but it turns out not only its 80 bucks, these are are gonna be just boxes with a voucher/code to redeem the actual game.
Obviously, this has pissed off a lot of the game playing populace (most of the “gamers TM” do like defending the right of corporations to fuck them over more and more, because they’re gamers), rightfully so, even as the industry pushes even more to a complete digital market monopoly, which is kinda soothing, even if it stems from just wanting at least a fuckin disk with the actual game since it costs 80 bucks.
OR DOES IT?
Well, it doesn’t actually costs 80 bucks, as the ultimate edition goes for 100 bucks and basically locks a lot of shops and has esclusive missions, it’s not just cosmetic stuff, so yeah, indeed, the actual full base game costs 100 bucks.
which is about what people expected, as Rockstar knows its GTA, they will it up anyway, so why even bother with discs? Charge them more for less, it’s worked so far, and mind you, this is an obvious tactic to prey on FOMO as they don’t want still to completely antagonize the retail and used market.. yet, not yet, very soon but not yet.

Most likely Rockstar was always gonna do a “only digital on release, then physical edition”, like they did for the awful remasters-port of the old GTA Trilogy, and they waited for the backlash so they could counter with the ” a disc version is coming later” to quell the outrage, while hoping no one would complain as the physical sales number keep dwindling.
Aside from the fact this “code in a box” shit is more stuff i expect System 3 to pull in rereleasing their old catalogue, like them still selling shovelware like Super Fruit Fall, and is ridiculous since this is Rockstar-Take Two we’re talking about, and their GTA V became the more profitable piece of media (not just videogames) ever.
Ignoring that, let’s say it, even accepting the lie that GTA 6 is 80 bucks: neither this nor Mario Kart World should have costed 80 bucks MSRP, as these increases are just because they can get away with it, as much i liked MK World for what it was, it sure as hell they ain’t feeling the need to justify the price increase by giving you more content, to give you more “bang buckage” since you’re expected to spend an obscene amount of money on a piece of entertaiment.
Heck, i bought Bananza full price (HECK, i bough MK World retail outside of the console bundle), i love that game and even so that doesn’t change shit, 80 bucks is an insane price regardless for a single videogame.
in a way for me it matters little, personally speaking i wasn’t gonna preorder it anyway, i’m way too swamped with my backlog anyway, and all of this discussion while we haven’t seen a single snippet of actual gameplay, and frankly i’m fully expecting this to be a repeat of Cyberpunk 2077 and the horrid state it launched in.
Maybe let’s see if the fucking thing is in a playable state at launch, first.
Also, it just happens Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered launches on November, i’m gonna buy that, will GTA 6 have the King Of The Monsters as a playable character throwing buildings at Gigan? I doubt so.
