Pretty much everyone with interest in videogames knows Qubert, star of his eponymous arcade game in the 80s, a really iconic title from that era, so much that even System Of A Down made a song about him.

I would be surprised if more than 5 of you knew Q*Bert Rebooted existed, and i’m not counting myself, i learnt of this modern remake just because it was a “free” PS Plus game months ago, i wouldn’t have played it otherwise.

And frankly, it’s easy to see why it was trashed by the press and quietly forgotten. Because it really deserves to stay in oblivion and just once in a while get dragged out of the black abyss of reviews’ aggregators by people like myself. If you’re a fan of One Piece in america, my guess is that you aren’t exactly happy with the videogames based on Eichiiro Oda’s series, since most of them either didn’t receive an american release, received one but it was based on the craptastic cut version done by 4Kids, or were released as a digital download only.

Since i live in Europe (italy, to be precise), i didn’t have that problem, due to the series being more popular here, but that doesn’t mean we always received good stuff based on One Piece, despite the Pirate Warriors sub-series being pretty good if you like musou games (and i do).

So time to review both Unlimited Cruise games for the Nintendo Wiii, which ironically had a predecessor of sort (One Piece: Unlimited Adventure, also on the Wii) released in America but not here in Europe for issues with international rights (and legalese stuff like that), and were later ported to the 3DS as separate titles again, even though the japanese version had them bundled together.

Namco Bandai said it was made due to having to fit the various languases, i don’t buy it, since they marketed it as one game and just days before launch news reported of the game being split in two single, full priced games, and  – most important – they felt like a title split in two separate games to begin with.

We’ll start from the first one (makes sense), One Piece Unlimited Cruise Episode 1: The Treasure Beneath The Waves, developed by Ganbarion and released by Namco Bandai in PAL territories in 2009. Continua a leggere “One Piece: Unlimited Cruise 1: The Treasure Beneath The Waves (WII) [REVIEW]”

What to expect (columns, review formats)

judge hammer.jpg

Okay, let’s get to what you’ll see on the blog, column-wise.

The main feature of the blog will be “Wise Reviews” (yeah, a bit self-aggrandizing, but i couldn’t come up with something better AND shorter than that), full lenght reviews, i’m not gonna do separate review columns for animation, movies, tv series, videogames. Not here at least.

I will have info about the way i obtained/watched the opus i’m reviewing, and list specific info for books and comics (language, publishing press, etc.), and i will later organize them by format (videogames, tv series, movies, i’m not counting anymation as a separate category, because despite lot of nuances that characterize and distance it from live-action, it isn’t a separate genre in itself), maybe.

I’m also gonna feature EXPRESSO here as well, meaning that i will also have reviews in a short format (300 words for review), like i used to and still do for my italian blogs, mostly to give a quick review of something new/recently released in cinema here in Italy, distribuited via Netflix or screened in some capacity in my area.

About the pacing,  for the meantime i’ll post a review when i can, i’m not gonna promise to do 2 articles a week when i know i can’t pull it off (since i still write for 2 other blogs of mine), but i want to make a schedule of sorts, and i hope i can deliver content on a regular basis at the beginning of september.

I’m trying to get some gear to record and capture footage, i wanna do video content eventually,  but i need a new pc, which i can’t afford at the moment. is in the works, but not right now.

For now, it’s all i have to say. You’ll learn more by reading, anyway. 🙂

First post (aka the placeholder one)

Animal Crossing Direct directed by David Lynch

Hello, i’ve been writing in my native language (italian) for 8 years, but i wanted to make an english blog, so here it is. Don’t worry, i won’t just translate my old reviews, my opinion may be the same about that movie or game, but i’ll rewrite i from scratch, and write new ones. Expect mostly videogame, movies and manga/anime reviews.

And yes, i see the movies/play the videogame i review, and i don’t copy my content from other sites. Might as well point this out right away, i’ve seen sites copying articles verbatim from Bloody Disgusting and just translate them in italian (i usually say “i’m ashamed in their stead” but fuck that, i’m not a renowed writer, but i write it all myself, i don’t want praise for what should be standard operating procedure).

I will update and start publishing as soon as i can make a decent long-term schedule, if you happen to be or know italian, i direct you here for videogames, and here for everything else.

See ya!
