Yes, apparently One Piece Day just happened to be scheduled on August 10th last year, officially this year gonna be on the 22-23 Of August, and so it might seem pretty early to discuss things that in 2 weeks might not even matter or instead be addressed, but since on the 16th the blog goes on hiatus as usual, and i usually reserve/consider August as One Piece Month, i will be rambling a bit anyway.

And i’d say in general this is both a very good but very weird situation the franchise is at, because while the manga is allegedly in the final big saga and is arguably even more popular that it had been before, the derivate works like the anime adaptation are also suffering… admittely because there’s an obscene request of anime content by streaming services, which means overworking even more to the bone the same few studios, because all of this money sure isn’t for the animators, creators or people actually making these shows, and sure isn’t invested into opening up more studio, you know… why though, one might ask, since new animators aren’t really made or nurtured, and the pay is often below poverty lines, so why open studios when we don’t even have staff for the current ones.
Even Toei had to split one of the biggest money making series, One Piece, into cours, and into a seasonal broadcast, away from the historic weekly release system it kept for the past 25 years, though i’m okay with this, more than okay, for obvious reason, but it’s indicative how the old system is simply unsusteinable even for the biggest name in the field. Even the more Powerslave-aligned nation had to occasionally face reality, in a way.
Occasionally because the “two cours situations” didn’t actually come to pass, and so far they kept the weekly release, though i guess we’ll learn more about later this month, but since at the moment there’s just 8/9 episodes left out the announced batch of 2026, i assume the anime will just stop and resume in 2027.
Well, the “old” anime series, we know and saw a trailer of the new anime adaptation by Wit Studio, The One Piece, releasing on Netflix…. starting February 2027, which does look like it will be a more slim, faithful adaptation of the manga, meant to expecially fix the old issues of padding, filler and episodes stretched out more than Luffy itself so they could squeeze more episodes out of events that would happen in a single manga chapter.
Looks good and it obviously meant to be made for new audiences that ain’t too keen on catching up on literal thousands of episodes of the old series. but we’ll see next year.
Obviously the One Piece live action shows is set to help “plug up” the moments of downtime (from a viewer’s prospective, anyway), even more than before i feel, and Netflix is definitely set to make its version of One Piece a new Strangers Things, because they even commissioned a LEGO animated retelling of the One Piece live action first 2 season (Season 3 is coming next year), and that is set to release late September 2026, as a two parts special.
Feels a bit weird to say “Lego”, “Netflix” and “One Piece” in the same sentence, not gonna lie, even more so because One Piece is already “for the kidz”, it’s a Shonen Jump born series through and through, and while i enjoy the LEGO videogames on occasion, i’m not too incensed about it, but sure as hell it will sell even more insanely priced sets that children will never afford.
I do wonder what happened to the supposed new One Piece anime film, it was kind of a tradition to get one each summer, but as previously stated in official reports, the production encountered some issues, and since we never heard any real update since December 2025, i’d say even if we do get some news on the actual One Piece Day 2026, the film sure as hell isn’t gonna release in 2026.
Just the fact we still don’t even know what the plot was supposed to be about, that we didn’t get any minor leak, i’d say a Summer 2027 release is more likely, more than getting revelead that it’s acually done and ready, actually debutting in Japanese Theathers the last weekend of August.
Again, the issue of the anime most likely going on hiatus again to let the manga catch up trickles down to the videogames too… if they plan to adapt the new material, that is, but even so, the only new OP videogame announced is One Piece Grand Gourmet, for this October, which is basically asking Kairosoft, a company specialized in these pixel art management sims to do one about restaurants with a OP license.
Which isn’t bad but feels a itsy bitsy slim offering, you’d expect Namco Bandai to at least announce more
I’m surprised they didn’t remaster World Seeker as a complete edition deal for the new gen consoles, actually, that would be the easy choice to just put out something One Piece, and yes, i do expect them to announce even more DLC characters for Pirate Warriors 4, even though i would love to move on from that.
There i would comment on the One Piece TCG, but i don’t really play it. i just collect them for fun, despite having to preorder packs in advance because fuckin Konami doesn’t distribute enough of these fuckin things.
Hopefully we’ll have some big announcement in a couple weeks time, and -as said before – most likely i’m gonna be proven wrong, in some cases i hope so, but i won’t be doing any follow-up/update post to this because i’ll be taking the yearly mid.-August hiatus.
