Introducing “Platformation Time Again”

If you happen to be a long time reader or followed any of my previous italian blogs (not ruling that out), this announcement will feel like a deja-vu, but yes, i’m starting over this column about platforming games with a brand new format and a “when i can” irregular posting.

If you have no idea what i’m talking about and somehow skipped the “column about platforming videogames” part just above, yes, this will be a column about platformers, with in depth, structured reviews with no regular cadence, a new entry/review will basically happen when i can actually set time aside to play and dissect a game, so irregular cadence it is.

And yes, it will be all written a new from scratch, so don’t worry about that.

Not much in the way of rules, just i don’t plan to review hacks or bootlegs, at least for now, but i doubt this rule will change over time. Just making this clear.

As to why, i’m a big platformer buff, so i missed doing these, hence are we again. 🙂

Also, i might be commissioning a request for the column’s logo later down the line.

MIGHT.

The first entry/review for Platformation Time Again will hit later today, bye!

Super Summer Hiatus: Triple Deluxe

So, the summer hiatus for the blog starts today, but due to university woes and cramming exams, i will be taking a couple of extra weeks off, so we’ll resume on the 15th of September instead of the 1st, and as a form of “compensation” we’ll have a review up every 3 days instead of weekly.

As usual, the hiatus will not apply for the EXPRESSO rubric.

Happy holidays!

My Deer Friend Nokotan/Shikanoko Nokonoko Koshitantan [ANIME FIRST IMPRESSIONS]

For most of you, there won’t be any need to introduce My Deer Friend Nokotan, as the marketing for it made it an instantly popular memetic trend, thanks to the incredible trailer, it coming from studio WIT and promising a non-sensical humour reminescent of Nichijou, especially as one of the legendary scenes in it was the “school principal VS deer wrestling match”.

The “shikanoko dance” itself made it reach meme heaven, go super-viral, as it resonated beyond well with the internet anime communities, all months before the first episode was aired and available on streaming via many popular services. And Crunchyroll.

Not bad for what was originally a fairly unknown manga by Oshioshio, author of Sakura Maimai but better known today (kinda) as the character designer for popular V-Tuber Amane Kanata.

The Summer Of EDF will resume tomorrow

the new review for Summer Of EDF should’have been published today, but due what i can only described as “scholar fatigue of cramming too many exams and barely sleeping”, the review will come out tomorrow instead.

Sorry.

Summer Of EDF: Checking In, Metal Slug Tactics and the Promise Of Deer

Just a quick post to inform you i plan to have an EXPRESSO review of EDF 6 somewhere in late July/early August (the game comes out westward July 19th), i’m finalizing my thoughts on the Metal Slug Tactics demo that was made available on Steam, and also that i’m aware of that “girl deer hybrid” anime that has spread the brainrot meme animedance of the moment, i’m actually gonna cover it, if nothing else because the marketing team did a bang up job at making it a viral sensation months ahead of its actual broadcast.

And it might actually live up to the Nichijou vibes it gives off.

I also have an announcement for August… but i’ll reveal it later in July, maybe mid-July.

Cold Vitae and the replacement review

I planned to review a Vita beat em up for this #meleemay but things are taking longer than planned, so my Vita is still in the shop and that review isn’t coming anytime within May or early June, apparently.

So instead i’m gonna review an obscure movie, since it has become somewhat rilevant for the hardcore Mamoru Oshii fans due to some recent restoration news.

I’m not gonna say anything else to avoid spoiling the surprise completely.

Also, FIY, i’m not gonna do an EXPRESSO review of the new Planet Of The Apes movie, i haven’t seen the last ones and i don’t particularly care regardless, really not feeling it to be frank.

Melee May will tag in for Musou May

So yeah, as promised, instead of the usual Musou May, this year will focus on the more typical beat em up games, going from some licensed tie-in “trash” to the more forgotten dephts of the PS2 backlog, and evena fairly recent entry in the “pants em up” subgenre.

Image is for mystification purposes only, covering Smash clones would be fun but i really don’t have neither the time or the expertise at the moment.

Yuru Camp/Laid Back Camp Season 3 [FIRST IMPRESSIONS]

So, why are we doing a first impressions of the new season of Yuru Camp, a series i’ve covered extensively on here and one of my favourites of ever?

As in, i usually have the review when the season is over, but i was so pleased by the movie and so busy i forgot Season 3 was scheduled to come out, but as i remembered it being planned for a “winter release”…. i was surprised when a friend of mine told me the first episodes were out.

Then i remembered why i wasn’t as hyped as i would usually be, the fact the third season was not gonna be animated by C-Station, which is a yellow flag, and that it was gonna have a different director, Shin Tosaka, whom previously directed some episodes of many anime series (from Busou Shinki to some Beyblade series, and more recently The Slime Diaries, the spin-off of That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime) and some OVAs and ONAs.

Even before i made some research, it still was not a good sign, but i did watch the first 3 episodes (it’s streaming on Crunchyroll), after hearing of fans lamenting some issues, so here it goes.

Giving up the ghost: a correction

So remember how i said i was gonna have a Ghostbusters or ghost-related review out by the end of April? Yep, that ain’t gonna happen since my PS2 is malfunctioning (not much of a clue, but this isn’t a quiz), so that review will have to wait, and instead i’m gonna write my “pipin’ hot” first impressions of Yuru Camp/Laid Back Camp Season 3.

Sorry for not delivering.

Early April Hiatus + Musou May Swapparoni

As mentioned at the start of this year’s Giant Monster March, i’m gonna take a break of two week starting from early April for educational reasons (uni and related stuff), and will resume on the 15th of April with my reviews of the last (and i assume final) batch of DLC contents for Pirate Warriors 4 and maybe a Ghostbusters related thingie.

As usual, during the break EXPRESSO reviews might still come about, and to a certain extent will.

ALSO, might as well put out that there won’t be Musou May this year, for schedule and reality reasons, but there will be Melee May instead, as look as various beat ‘em ups/hack n slash games that aren’t musou or musou-like, for a change.
